This seminar was a consequence of a series of previous such events, organised by the Research Observatory on Media and Journalism, which took place in 2016 and 2017 at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve, with the participation of representatives of a research group from many European countries, under the guidance of Prof. Frédéric Antoine.

It seems that today one of the most important research questions is to determine whether, and to what extent, the European countries' policy should support the process of digitisation of media market (especially the printed press), and what are the challenges and threats to this process, whether State support systems are necessary for this sector and who is responsible for the digital future of the media and finally how to perceive the principle of media freedom in this context.

During the conference, researches gave presentations and shared experiences from many European small countries and regions.
